  1. SUPPLIER SELECTION PROCESS OF OUTSOURCED LOGISTICS SERVICES - A LEAN SIX SIGMA APPROACH

    This paper focuses on addressing the challenges in the supplier selection process (SSP) for logistical activities. An action research case study approach in a large multinational healthcare technology company was conducted. Lean Six Sigma’s DMAIC (DefineMeasure-Analyse-Improve-Control) methodology was applied to alleviate bottlenecks and improve the SSP of the case company. Two research questions were raised to address the key challenges faced in the SSP of the case company. The first research question aimed to understand the current state of company A’s SSP and identified three possible root causes to this issue. The second research question focused on identifying areas that the Lean Six Sigma can be incorporated to improve the SSP. While the findings and proposed lean six sigma solutions to enhance the SSP in the case company are encouraging, the study is limited in a single case, the proposed approach needs to be further tested and refined in more services purchasing organisations. Research in service procurement and supplier selection rarely link continuous improvement ideology to support strategic selection and procurement of logistics services. This action research contributes to research and practice by explicating the value of lean six sigma as a total quality management framework to drive service improvements in the supplier selection and procurement processes.

    This paper deals with the customer-centric implementation of white-label pickup stations in the challenging field of parcel logistics. A white-label pickup station is a point for parcel deliveries that is not limited to one parcel delivery company, but open to other ones as well. The concept offers consumers a convenient way for receiving parcels around the clock, and logistics companies the opportunity for improving operational performance. Moreover, a network of white-label pickup stations can help to reduce traffic. Consequently, white-label pickup stations can ease the environmental impact of last mile delivery. The research takes place in the context of the project alBOX, which aims to develop sustainable business models for white-label pickup stations. This requires a thorough understanding of potential customers. In order to investigate customer preferences, a conjoint analysis is carried out. This allows to understand how people value alternative service configurations of white-label pickup stations.

    Sustainable operations and supply chain are the crying needs of today’s global business environment. Governments all over the world are trying to enact laws to reduce or ban plastic products and encourage the use of biodegradable packaging and storage of goods. There is a range of encouraging practices visible in different domains of the business operations including designing, manufacturing, storage, and distribution. This paper has focused on some of the sustainable packaging approaches adopted by some companies in the horticultural sector of New Zealand which grow, pack, and export fruits to the global markets. There are also innovative examples of sustainable packaging from other parts of the world for improving the company's operational efficiency and environmental sustainability towards better profits. The paper is based on a range of articles in the trade journals, newspapers, and journals highlighting the importance of sustainability in the packaging and supply chain domain.

    The cooling system has a fundamental role in the die casting process because the cooling system will directly affect the quality of the casting results. However, to ensure the cooling system works well from time to time is not easy. More frequent and regularly checking the cooling system is one possible way to ensure it. Nevertheless, this way is disrupting the casting process. In this paper, a predictive maintenance technique is proposed with autonomous analysis based on machine learning and sensor data. A SCADA system collects real-time data from several sensor combinations. This data is then passed to a machine learning algorithm for predicting cooling system conditions, i.e., predicting future system failure. The proposed predictive maintenance system is expected to be able to predict the damage better. Therefore, it will reduce the possibility of unplanned system failure. Also, it is increasing the maintenance process. The maintenance is carried out according to the cooling system conditions and without the need periodically check the cooling system.

    The objective of this article is to propose a framework that measures supply chain quality in a healthcare organization. The proposed framework considers a dynamic model for crafting better quality metrics that ensure improvement in the performance and makes the health care supply chain more responsive and efficient. In order to build a dynamically improving healthcare supply chain quality measurement system, we have made a set of four enquiries to understand the current situation for an organization and then designing a new set of quality metrics or modifying the existing ones through the use of balanced scorecard concept and a dynamic feedback system. The proposed framework minimizes the weak links and flaws in a healthcare organization’s supply chain. It helps the healthcare supply chain managers identifying gaps that cause supply chain inefficiencies and then come up with better quality metrics that incorporate all possible dimensions of quality. This will enable the manager to make decisions in a more balanced way considering all the aspects of the healthcare supply chain.

    Questionnaires are effective tools which are commonly used for collecting survey data regarding the actual customer’s needs. Such information is required to develop the customer’s needs quality function deployment (CN-QFD) for creating a new product, namely; a sustainable one-handed lipstick packaging. On-line questionnaire/satisfaction surveys are indispensable to obtain accurate results concerning the customer’s needs. Such surveys use a combination of Telrad’s questionnaire procedure to include or exclude the questionnaire in accordance with the mission requirements and the Hybrid QFD Framework to develop a new product. A detailed analysis of the satisfaction survey results reveals the actual customers’ needs which can be further incorporated into the engineering characteristics. After excluding a number of the questionnaires, the remaining ones can be further modified and become the critical parts to construct the final QFD to form the House of Quality (HoQ). In this study, several designed alternatives were considered and the best resolution alternative for the sustainable one-handed lipstick packaging was selected and prototyped accordingly. The round-shape casing encourages keeping the lipstick in the palm of the hand, thus enabling the easy use of the slide-up and -down mechanism. Moreover, the twisting and pulling off of the plastic ring are designed to reduce waste. The cap lid flips up conveniently using only one-hand, which provides a better opportunity to be used suitably and effectively at all times. Finally, the lipstick casing can be reused and the severed ring at the sleeve can also be twirled and removed conveniently which minimizes the waste of lipstick content.

    The aviation industry is one of the most regulated global industries that connects people, create new travelling to various places and worldwide transportation. The aviation industry includes Airports, Airlines, Aero-manufacturing, Aircraft maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO), system integration, logistics, and other relevant businesses. As the recent Thailand strategic development plan aims to be an aviation hub in ASEAN, the aircraft MRO industry is in need for urgently and efficiently development. This research focuses on the aircraft MRO industry and the required specific knowledge and skills for MRO workforce development in this industry. The objective of this research is to identify gaps between the workforce demand for specific knowledge and skills complied with the MRO industry regulations and the current supply, which are the courses offerings in Thailand. The qualitative research method has been applied to identify the special knowledge and skills and regulation standard for the MRO industry. The literature review method has been conducted for understanding the current supply of the course offerings in Thailand. Finally, the gap findings from this study showing the demand for the industry-specific knowledge and skills and the supply from academic and non-academic institutes will be used for MRO workforce planning in the future.

    COVID-19 pandemic is a serious situation around the world. People have concerned about some viruses spreading in public areas. To restrain the spreading of the virus, a solution to the virus disinfection has been performed by chemical solutions and some thermal processes. The ultraviolet-C light is a non-consumable disinfection method that can disinfect the virus by the sufficiently UV-C does. Therefore, the sterilizing process should be able closely to access through the target area for avoiding insufficient UV-C does. This research has the objective of introducing an automatic UV-C disinfection with the AGVCobot system service for the COVID-19 pendemic. AGV was employed for running on the scheduled routing by programming or real-time IoTs remoting. Cobot has a controllable human-motion function to provide the UV-C lamp closely scan on the target surface with an object recognized machine vision. The invention unit was tested for verifying the scanning parameter that has the capability for killing some mock-up virus in the patient’s room in hospital. From the experiment, the virus was perfectly killed at 3-log reduction with a UVC to-surface distance of 1 cm and a velocity of 1 cm/s. With this needed speed and base on the experiment results, sterilize the standard patient's room that has an area approximately 32 m2 in the hospital by AGV-Cobot with UV-C disinfection can be able in under 40 minutes. Meanwhile, the scanning time that emitting UV-C light to all furniture in the patient's room is under 25 minutes which has utility approximately 71.43% without any residues without any residues.

    Transfer pricing is the setting of the price for goods or services sold among related members within an organization, which is an important financial and business issue that has been ignored in many supply chain network designs studies. Some studies have considering transfer pricing into production and supply chain planning; however, total profit optimization is a single-objective and does not consider the satisfaction of individual member from a fair perspective. Since the sustainable development is also very important for long-term strategy in an organization, this study focused on balancing the trade-off of fairness and total profit on supply chain network design problem using transfer pricing. Meantime, a multi-supplier, multi-parts factory, multi-assy factory, multi-sales distributor, multi-item problem is solved by the integrated method of Mixed Integer Linear Programming and Fuzzy-Programming proposed by this study. From the experimental results, we verify that the transfer pricing can maximize the total profit of supply chain network. In addition, the proposed multi-objective optimization model that takes fairness into consideration can benefit each member with minimal satisfaction while nice total profit.

    This paper discusses the development of a multi-objective robust optimization model for facility layout design in the manufacturing systems. This proposed model considers the uncertainty of demand for each type of product. The facility layout design has three objectives, namely minimizing the expected total material handling cost, maximizing the total adjacency value between departments which is the functional relationship and adjacency requirements, and maximizing the utilization of the total area available. In addition, this proposed model considered the production process flow of each type of products, the value of adjacency between departments and the demand uncertainty for each type of product, such that the resulting facility layout is robust. The demand uncertainty for each type of products were expressed in the form of discrete scenarios with certain probabilities according to historical demand data. The demand uncertainty for each type of products has an impact on the uncertainty of the frequency of material movement between departments, which would affect the determination of the optimal position of one department against other departments. The proposed model of multi objective robust optimization for facility layout design had been solved using Gurobi Optimization - Python programming. Numerical experiment had been presented to show the results of applying the proposed model to assist facility planning managers in obtaining an efficient facility layout.

    At present, the rail-based mass rapid transit systems or metros in Thailand are composed of The Bangkok Mass Transit System(BTS), and the Mass Rapid Transit(MRT). Each system is operated by a different company under different terms of reference. There is no clear evidence to compare the efficiency of each system in consuming input resources to produce desired outputs. Previously, the performance between BTS and MRT have not been compared before. To make the benchmarking more efficiently, we need to have more metro operation that has a similar size to BTS and MRT. In this case, the metro operation from the NOVA member groups has been compared in this study. Hence, this research is to calculate the efficiency score for each system as well as to suggest ways for improvement for the inefficient systems. The Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) model has been applied in this research to calculate the technical efficiency, pure technical efficiency, and scale efficiency values as well as to identify slacks and rank rail-based mass rapid transit systems. The selected rail-based mass rapid transit will be analyzed. The metro that achieved the highest efficiency score is that the Montréal Metro. BTS in Thailand attained the rank of 5th, but MRT ranked 10th of 15 rail-based mass rapid transit systems, this indicated that MRT inefficiency and need to improve.

    This paper discusses the effect of COVID-19 on tourism industry in general and on Egypt in particular and review the emerging literature to better understand, manage and valorize both the tourism impacts and transformational affordance of COVID-19 and to stimulate knowledge development in the tourism sector. This paper is based on an overview of the relevant literature on travel and tourism industry as well as hospitality service trends. To achieve purpose of this paper, first, the paper discusses the impact of COVID-19 as an international tourism disruption by investigating the circumstances of different tourism sectors affected by the pandemic. The paper continues by discussing the major impacts, behaviors and experiences of COVID-19 on selected tourism supply chain members in Egypt. Then, the paper provides a rapid assessment of the reported procedures of the three major tourism stakeholders in Egyptian tourism (namely tourism demand, supply and government and policy makers) during three COVID-19 mitigation stages (response, recovery and restart).through to the end of March 2020. Finally summarizing the early resilient practices to the tourism industry in over 2020 and beyond. This paper provides an overview of the COVID-19 tourism impacts and implications and suggest mitigation strategies for tourism research. Despite the sector’s resilience in response to previous crises, the sheer depth and breadth of COVID-19– related impacts on tourism and economy means a quick recovery is unlikely.

    ‘Angkot’ or Paratransit can be considered as an early development version of public transportation which is commonly found in smaller towns in Indonesia. It often has no fixed schedule or timetable compare to the typical public transportation. In the tourist city of Batu in Indonesia, Angkot service is quite popular among the residents and covers many public places in the city-center area. Due to the lack of route information display, the usage of paratransit services are often limited to only Batu residents. We found that generally people used motorcycles as their main transportation and only 16.44% are common angkot users. This study proposed the design of Batu city paratransit map using the 12 key elements of the TCRP standard for public transportation displays. The display languages are available both in Indonesian and English to broaden the public group of paratransit users. The early schematic map design has been developed and tested with Indonesians and the feedback was positive. The comments from the open-ended questions are collected, coded, and then classified intogroups to use for revising the map. Overall, the paratransit map looks similar to public transportation except the meaning of the common stops for paratransit compared to the interchanges area in other public transportation. By proposing the design information displays specifically for paratransit, this should be beneficial for the future development of public transportation services in Batu City.

    The use of online platforms is developing with the growth of information and technology. Matching between the demand and the supply in the online spot market is one of the challenges, particularly in transportation services sourcing. The platform is required to make a decision, considering the specifications and requirements from providers and customers, to pair the supply and demand in a short time. This study explores the theory and application of the supply and demand matching for online spot market platforms. We elaborate more on the transportation services sourcing platforms. Some studies are collected and analyzed based on the categories including business model, mechanism, cycle setting, scheduling type, and expected outcomes. Some research directions are provided as results. This study provides the review of matching supply and demand studies in online transportation market. It also helps practitioners to classify and analyze the appropriate system to be applied for matching supply and demand in online transportation sourcing services.

    Long term plans for railways in Thailand include building metro and commuter lines in the Bangkok Metropolitan area. For identification purposes these are color-coded. The two Red Lines link Bangkok with suburban areas along north-south and east-west corridors. The expansion of the Light Red line to the west of Bangkok will terminate at "Salaya", with a spur line to "Siriraj". This will be the first network in Thailand on which electrified commuter and conventional long distance trains share tracks. This research investigates operational challenges between the different train types on the section from the main line terminal of "Bang Sue" to "Salaya" using a simulation model using OpenTrack program is asynchronous simulation. Study the possibility of using a shared rail and stations for train operation of different train types on the Red Line railway, including the impact on the various routes. The simulation showed that the different route reserving and releasing principles of the Light Red Line and the conventional line cause considerable capacity limitation along this main line sharing network. In the case of mixed traffic with only the commuter main line operations, the Light Red Line train can operate with a 10 minute-headway. If there is a need to use both commuter main and spur lines, only 15 minute headway can be achieved. The Light Red Line shuttle train service along the "Siriraj" spur line section should be considered in order to reduce the congestion effect caused by sharing tracks.

    The logistics operation is one of the most critical components in the management of the supply chain within the airline catering business. Airline catering service providers have to manage increasingly complex logistics processes due to the competitive nature of the business. Enterprise resource planning systems (ERP) are the key enabler for the successful business process management in any organisation. It is important for embedding the process knowledge within the ERP application to achieve efficiency in all parts of the organisation. Yet, it is a crucial issue for airline catering companies to adopt and implement ERP systems. Therefore, we are motivated to perform analysis and design of airline catering logistics function for ERP system implementation. This paper discusses the three core processes of airline catering logistics function and supporting modeling methodology that enables successful ERP system design. Initially, we conducted analysis on airline catering logistics processes through direct observation and interviews with subject matter experts within the organization. Then we used the Signavio Process Manager, a process modeling tool to create standard business process models for the logistics functional area. This process landscape can be used as a reference for the implementation and can be published in webbased collaborative platform within the organization. Business users, management and IT experts can view the diagrams, discuss with their colleagues and make suggestions for improvements. Consequently, they can work on the process models together with the internal and external stakeholders to implement the system.

The study aims to develop a probabilistic model of cash flows, effects and costs to compute the effectiveness of budget investments in complex infrastructure facilities.

    Manufacturing companies are urged to digitalize various production and management processes to stay innovative and competitive. As such, shop-floor employees in production plants are typically the first to face the challenge of digitalization. The topic of employees’ role in the age of Industry 4.0 has been discussed in the literature, raising concerns that people will be replaced by the technologies offered by the fourth industrial revolution. More recently, digitalization studies have proposed the successful combination of work between man and machine in manufacturing plants. The lean management literature also discusses people as the main asset of manufacturing firms, where employees are the key driver for changes and improvements. However, there is a lack of discussion regarding the employees going through the digital transformation process themselves, and why some processes have been more successful than others. This study aims to evaluate a model from soft lean management practices and soft total quality management practices for digital transformation in Norwegian manufacturing companies. Furthermore, this study aims to evaluate the behaviours of employees from different management levels in the digital transformation process.

    Competition in the increasingly competitive construction business forces companies to make changes in an effort to increase competitiveness in the acquisition of new contracts. In the last three years the Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) business in one of state-owned construction company in Indonesia has been faced with a declining trend in hit rate of contract acquisition. Evaluation result indicates that less competitive price is the most dominant factor as the cause of failure in the tenders followed. This research is intended to find the gap between strategic sourcing currently applied with best practice. The evaluation conducted by comparing the existing strategic sourcing with the model in the literature review. Improvement were made to address the gap to obtain a more appropriate strategic sourcing and supplier relationship management using spending analysis, supply market analysis, kraljic’s matrix supplier segmentation and business model mapping toolkit. This research is expected to provide a more appropriate alternative strategy for supplier selection and supplier relationship management to improve company’s competitiveness in the acquisition of new contracts. This research is also expected to be able to give insight and open opportunity for other research related to the implementation of supply chain strategies in the EPC business.

    This research presents of hybrid design of MRP and JIT system to improve the collaboration between a company with its supplier under demand uncertainty. A case of pigment inventory in a plastic injection manufacturing company is taken to understand the important aspects in implementing hybrid MRP-JIT system, where the aspects are reviewed from both practical and academic perspectives. The performance evaluated in this case study are related to inventory and production performance. The inventory performance is measured through the level of stockout, overstock, and non-moving stock. Meanwhile, the production performance is represented by the expected downtime. The process of analysis and designing the conceptual design of MRP-JIT system are presented in this research. The analysis is conducted to ensure that the characteristics of the case study match with the concept of MRP and JIT, so a literature study is required in this phase. Then, the MRP-JIT hybrid design is proposed to incorporate advantages of both MRP and JIT. MRP is adopted to improve the inventory process in terms of planning, while JIT is used to accelerate the inventory process in terms of operational implementation in the field directly. The contribution of this research is to provide a practical approach to adjust the needs of the manufacturing industry with cost efficiency.

    High costs of production in developed countries have pushed some manufacturers outsource some of their production to developing countries. The relocation through outsourcing also shifts the pollution to developing areas. Developing countries or areas, however, accept this kind of manufacturing mainly for economic benefits. After the relocation of production with pollution, developed countries have significantly less pollution, but the pollution in developing countries like China has increased significantly. In addition, after the growth of the economy, there are also significant movements of pollution within China and to some Southeast Asian countries. The objective of this review is to highlight how more pollution is generated and spread around the earth for the same amounts of products made due to lax environment control regulations and law enforcement, lower standards, lower technologies, lack of facilities for pollution control, less concept of environment control and lack of well trained professional staff in the developing countries / regions. Furthermore, China also exports pollution. Some factories with pollution are relocated to some Southeast Asian countries such as Vietnam. In the same way, India’s pollution also goes to populous neighboring countries. This study found that the total amounts of pollution are generated more in this way for the same amounts of products made and end up damage the whole earth including the rich countries. The pollution in the water, soil is also transferred between countries. The heavy industry air pollution already runs from northeast China towards Korea, Japan and further to the west coast of the USA, and finally to the whole world. This study uses content analysis through the literature review for this supply chain risk issue and develops theoretical knowledge on environmental sustainability.

    The purpose of this paper is to present a conceptual framework of reverse logistics capability in the pharmaceutical industry. Today, sustainability is becoming increasingly important for all companies, across all industries including the pharmaceutical industry. In addition, reverse logistics plays a vital role in recycled material flows and waste management in supporting sustainable development. Based on the Resource-based View, this study identified the five key reverse logistics capabilities, including technology, innovation, customisation, responsiveness and flexible operations, which may support waste management in the pharmaceutical industry from a logistics management perspective. This may provide some directions for both researchers and managers to further develop reverse logistics capability in order to optimise waste management in the different industries. The article contributes to the logistics management literature.

    Air transportation is often used between islands and countries which have economic advantages over other types of transportation. Technology in aircraft enables an increase in demand from year to year. demand density creates a queue of aircraft on the runway. Airport faced challenges within a key bottleneck in the air transport system and runway scheduling. This study focuses on modeling runways using mixed integer programming with empirical studies at Juanda International Airport, Surabaya. We use runway capacity management based on scheduling approach, runway configuration and aircraft separation standard. This study is to minimize aircraft waiting time on the runway before departure and landing in the air with considerable reduction in delays and minimize fuel cost. The model seeks the optimal aircraft sequence over each individual runway to assign to the runway and determine an optimal aircraft considering separation time standard and runway configuration. We proposed a heuristic sequential approach based on FCFS and AROT policies. The heuristic resulted in substantial savings of fuel burn and reduced delay in the runway which indicate that aircraft runway decisions are often overlooked in aircraft scheduling problems. By conducting research using these methods, it is expected to obtain near-optimal results to facilitate decision making in daily operations.

    This research aims to analyze the process and measure the performance of the construction services industry. This study takes the problem of construction supply chain in a major construction company in Indonesia. Supply chain performance measurement is carried out using the Supply Chain Operation Reference (SCOR) Model. We developed performance metrics and measure the performance of over 40 construction projects handled by this company. The performance we compared against the target. The results show that the gap in the rage of 21% to 26%. The general recommendation were to institutionalize supply chain management principles in the construction services to support business growth that include more effective dan efficient procurement process, improve synergy with business partners, SCM digital transformation, SCM talents competency coaching to support future supply chain management business processes.

    The supplier network is noteworthy to any company procurement's success. Companies depending on suppliers to induce the finest quality products at the least cost could be a challenge. Finding the right supplier who can be trusted has ended up like a game of treasure hunt. Effective supplier networks have become essential to compete in today's supply chain environment. The supplier roles are not limited to material management and sourcing management; it can be extended to supplier relationship management. A quantitative approach had been used, and the online survey design was distributed among respondents based on the convenient sampling technique using social media platforms. A total of 400 respondents have retrieved, and analyses used descriptive and inferential analysis. The finding shows a significant relationship between the supplier selection decision and guanxi attributes.

    Although supply chain collaboration is deemed to play a crucial role in the success of the garment industry, research on this topic is scarce. This paper, therefore, presents a conceptual framework to investigate how organizational and contextual factors affect supply chain collaboration as well as its impact on the firm competitive advantage in the garment industry. Underpinned by the institutional, resource-based view and relational view theories, the conceptual framework is developed from a comprehensive review of the related literature, together with hypotheses. The proposed framework is expected to enrich the literature on supply chain collaboration in a new research context. Specifically, this research is novel as it is perhaps one of the first studies which investigate the role of organizational and contextual factors as potential antecedents of supply chain collaboration in the garment industry. Future empirical validation of the framework will be conducted in the context of Vietnam as a developing country.

    Improving understanding on impact of risk factors affecting to transform conventional to sustainable supply chain is very important to support realization of sustainability practices. While large amount of studies has been presented to deal with supply chain sustainability risk assessment, the opposite is in contrary to effort in identifying on risks in transforming the conventional into sustainable supply chain. Motivated by this gap, in this paper an initial effort is presented to identify and classify the risks in transforming conventional into sustainable supply chain. A risk classification scheme is presented to sketch typological risks transformation risks. New research opportunities from this initial effort are then presented.

    Procurement maturity level related to the performance of an organization or company. It is need to be evaluated and improved, so that the performance of the Procurement Function can increased and budget efficiency can be achieved optimally. Currently the Shipping Procurement function at Company A, which is carry out the process of procuring goods and services for ship owned by company still has weaknesses that must be fixed, including lack of monitoring of contracts that already expired, cost savings that should be more optimized, manpower shortage, and so on. The maturity level of Shipping Procurement Function of Company A have never been evaluated this far, so the parameters that need to be improved to increase the procurement performance is not known yet. In this research, an evaluation of the Shipping Procurement Function maturity level will be conducted based on Procurement Maturity Model (PMM) developed by Stephen R. Guth. The evaluation carried out in 8 measurement areas, such as customer, organization, policy, process, staff, tools, values, and vendors, and there were 63 measurement elements in it. Through the gap analysis between current practice and best practice, there will be an existing gap that needs to get recommendations for improvement. The priority of the recommendation for improvement will be determined by Quality Function Deployment (QFD) method through creating House of Quality (HOQ). By knowing the current maturity level of the Shipping Procurement Function and existing gaps based on the PMM method, it is expected that the proper priority recommendations can be obtained for improvement in order to increase the maturity level and performance of the Shipping Procurement Function to fulfill the goods and services needs for ship operational purpose, also to contributing in the cost savings for company.

    Due to the need to protect the environment and some circumstances beyond a manufacturer’s control (such as product recalls), product returns have been introduced to the supply chain. Introducing product returns has led to the formation of closed loop supply chains, that is, situations in which organisations both manufacture and remanufacture their own products. Closed loop supply chains have been known to be uncertain in the timing, quality and quantity of the returns. In addition to these uncertainties, most organisations lack the necessary infrastructure and technology to perform reverse logistics operations on their own. For this reason, they seek assistance from external parties. Whilst the rapid pace of e-commerce has led to manufacturers adopting dual channels for selling their products, in closed loop supply chains, the dual channel has been defined by more than just selling products both offline and online. This paper investigated how dual channel have been utilized to address issues in closed loop supply chains. A content-based analysis was carried out for 57 papers. The identified characteristics of these papers were classified into 9 categories. By reviewing literature on dual channel supply chains, the paper was able to identify the ways in which different channels are formed in closed loop supply chains. The purpose of the paper was threefold. Firstly, the literature review described the general characteristics of dual channel closed loop supply chains based on what was revealed by existing literature. The review also classified literature based on the definition of dual channel CLSC, research methodology and. Finally, the research proposed some meaningful gaps and directions for future research. The results of the review showed that there is need to expand literature on the competition of channels, greening strategies and carbon emmissions and supply chain dynamics and stability in dual channel closed loop supply chains. Future research should also consider relaxing some assumptions and incorporating real case studies.

    As Indonesia is an archipelago country, sea transportation plays an important role. The state-owned enterprises known as PELINDO I-IV, are the main seaport operators in Indonesia. This study measured the efficiency of 10 PELINDO container terminals/ports using Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA). The results reveal that only three container terminals/ports performed efficiently. The yard crane is determined to be the main influential variable. This study demonstrates that some smaller ports such as Palembang, with smaller output or container throughputs, can become more efficient than larger ports. Overall, Terminal Petikemas Surabaya (TPS) achieved the highest technical efficiency.

    The shifts in business environment since the internet era have created new economy that is more complex, more technology-based, and highly competitive as characterized by high customers’ demand of value creation. This study researched the potentials for maximizing value creation through collaborative buyer-supplier relationship to adapt better to the new economy. The research was carried out as a case study at an upstream oil and gas company, which applies collaborative relationship process to create value out of its relationship with strategic suppliers. The empirical study followed qualitative as well as quantitative methods. The qualitative research was done through literature review while quantitative part was carried out using primary data collected through a questionnaire, from which five hypotheses have been defined and tested. Path analysis and bootstrapping test were employed to test the role of collaborative relationship in mediating the effect of trust and commitment on value creation. The result suggested the case company to move to the right side of relational models along the sourcing continuum by adopting more output and/or outcome-based economic models. The implementation of collaborative relationship process needs to be reinforced to the extent that it is run in more collaborative manner so as to boost trust and commitment. Challenges on contractual issues, benefit sharing, and resource constraints should be well mitigated to allow better process execution. All in all, to create and capture maximum value, collaborative relationship should be run in a way that stimulate maximum trust and commitment.

    Directs attention to additive manufacturing in a supply chain context. Analysis questions the degree it currently is a disruptive innovation. A case study consisting of interviews with 15 companies, including observations of some of these companies, providing a varied set of subcases. The research describes individual companies’ histories of using 3D printing tools, its current use and future prospects, as perceived by various informants. In the supply chain, additive manufacturing moves production closer to the product user, albeit currently on a small scale. Some firms are already specializing in providing additive manufacturing as a service. Networking and sourcing emerge as increasingly important issues to govern the development and use of additive manufacturing technology in the value chain of each studied company. Findings reveal how additive manufacturing at current is in its infancy and has limited impact on the networked production structure: it has not yet reached the stage of being a disruptive innovation. Investigation also reveals perceptions on how additive manufacturing in the near future may change the logistics flow structure in global supply chains, then becoming a disruptive innovation.

    Since the dawn or society, man have dreamt of aviation. The first known form of man-made flight came in the form of paper kites originating from China. But it was only in the 18th century were hydrogen balloons invented and the Montgolfier brothers discovering the hot air balloon. Within the same century of the Wright brothers’ single man wooden plane, large commercial planes capable of carrying in the hundreds is flying over our oceans on a daily basis. As the number of flights and air travelers increases year on year, so does the amount of baggage they bring on board. The barometer used to gauge an airport operator’s service quality is often the efficiency and quality of their Baggage-Handling-System. Due to the highly competitive nature of airport operators, it is of great importance they have the state-of-the-art systems. The aim of this research is to find out if an automated Unit Load Device for passenger baggage is capable of providing advantages in terms of cost, manpower and time efficiency. The design of the system focuses on the loading of baggage from the airport’s conveyor or storage onto the plane and the unloading of them at the destination airport. This is done by the introduction of built-in conveyors in the Unit Load Devices that allows baggage to be loaded into them directly from the airport conveyors without the need of workers to do so. The Unit Load Devices would then be driven to the airplanes loading bay by automated Dollies. The ULD’s built-in conveyor would unload the baggage onto the plane. The reverse process is then done to transfer the baggage off the plane and into the destination airport’s baggage system. The performance of the system is evaluated by comparing them to general baggage systems that are currently in use through a series of simulations.
